Outline

5:30 PM

Cantor

O, God, come to my assistance.

Response

O Lord, Make haste to help me.

Doxology

Praise the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit,

both now and for ever,

The God who is, who was, and is to come,

at the end of the ages.

Hymn

(varies)

Most holy God of heavens high,

The dazzling vast expanse of sky,

You decked with richest colors bright,

You flooded all with beauteous light.

The fourth day brought on new display,

The sun with flaming disk of day,

The light of circling moon for night,

And stars in wandering courses bright.

Most loving Father hear our plea.

You rule the world with equity.

Together with Your only Son,

And with Your Spirit three in one.

Amen

Psalm 109

The Lord’s revelation to my Master

Sit on my right;

your foes I will put beneath your feet.”

The Lord will wield from Zion

your scepter of power:

rule in the midst of all your foes.

A prince from the day of your birth

on the holy mountains;

from the womb before the dawn I begot you.

The Lord has sworn an oath he will not change

“You are a priest for ever,

a priest like Melchizedek of old.”

The Master standing at your right hand

will shatter kings in the day of his great wrath.

He, the Judge of the nations,

will heap high the bodies;

heads shall be shattered far and wide.

He shall drink from the stream by the wayside

and therefore he shall lift up his head.

Doxology

Praise the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit,

both now and for ever,

The God who is, who was, and is to come,

at the end of the ages.

Psalm 2

Why this tumult among nations,

among peoples this useless murmuring?

They arise, the kings of the earth,

princes plot against the Lord and his Anointed.

Come, let us break their fetters,

come, let us cast off their yoke.”

He who sits in the heavens laughs,

the Lord is laughing them to scorn.

Then he will speak in his anger,

his rage will strike them with terror.

“It is I who have set up my king

on Zion, my holy mountain.”

I will announce the decree of the Lord

The Lord said to me: “You are my Son.

It is I who have begotten you this day.

Ask and I shall bequeath you the nations,

put the ends of the earth in your possession.

With a rod of iron you will break them,

shatter them like a potter’s jar.”

Now, O kings, understand,

take warning, rulers of the earth;

serve the Lord with awe

and trembling, pay him your homage

lest he be angry and you perish;

for suddenly his anger will blaze.

Blessed are they who put their trust in God.

Doxology

Praise the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit,

both now and for ever,

The God who is, who was, and is to come,

at the end of the ages.

Short Reading, Week 1

(varies)

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all consolation, who consoles us in all our afflictions, so that we may be able to console those who are in any affliction with the consolation with which we ourselves are consoled by Christ.

Responsorial Psalm

(varies)

Blessed are you, O Lord,

in the firmament of heaven.

Praiseworthy and glorious forever.

Blessed are you, O Lord,

in the firmament of heaven.

Praise the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit,

both now and for ever,

the God who is, who was and is to come,

at the end of the ages.

Blessed are you, O Lord,

in the firmament of heaven.

Amen

Magnificat Antiphon

Let us not lose sight of Jesus, who leads us in our faith; he endured the cross and has taken his place at the right hand of God’s throne.  Alleluia.

Song of Mary

My soul glorifies the Lord,

my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.

He looks on his servant in her nothingness;

henceforth all ages will call me blessed.

The Almighty works marvels for me.

Holy is his name!

His mercy is from age to age,

on those who fear him.

He puts forth his arm in strength

and scatters the proud-hearted

He casts the mighty from their thrones

and raises the lowly.

He fills the starving with good things,

sends the rich away empty.

He protects Israel, his servant,

remembering his mercy,

The mercy promised to our fathers,

for Abraham and his sons for ever.

Doxology

Praise the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit,

both now and for ever,

The God who is, who was, and is to come,

at the end of the ages.

Intercessions

Father, you have rooted your Church in the person of Jesus Christ.  Our faith is in him.  Hear us, as we pray in his name, saying:

Lord, hear our prayer!

That we look upon the needs of others and put on the compassion of Jesus Christ.

Lord, hear our prayer!

That we put to death all arrogance and pride and put on the humility of Jesus Christ.

Lord, hear our prayer!

That we be set free from anger and put on the patience of Jesus Christ.

Lord, hear our prayer!

That we leave behind all bitterness and resentment and put on the forgiveness of Jesus Christ.

Lord, hear our prayer!

That in all we do or say, we be filled with the love of Jesus Christ.

Lord, hear our prayer!

That we pass unharmed through the hour of death and put on the glory of Jesus Christ.

Father, we now join in the prayer that Jesus left us:

Our Father,

who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name,

Thy kingdom come,

thy will be done on earth

as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our trespasses

as we forgive those

who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

Amen

Concluding Prayer

(varies)

Ever faithful God, you love us and bless us in Jesus Christ your Son.  By him alone you are perfectly glorified.  At this evening hour, may your Spirit in us sing the marvels of your salvation; God most high, who lives forever and ever.

Amen

Dismissal

May the Lord bless us,

keep away all evil,

and lead us to eternal life

Amen

Let us bless the Lord.

Thanks be to God.
